Faster EFT: Need Help Because You’re Hooked on Commenting in Social Media?

When you read a post or watch a video online, do you find yourself getting distracted by the comments from others? Not everyone can be bothered with reading comments; but for some, it can be addictive and destructive.

If you find yourself unable to resist reading stuff that other people have written, and feeling a range of bad feelings as a result, you may want to take back control.

This is not about willpower and dragging yourself away; there is a reason you’re feeling this compulsion, and when you resolve that, you will no longer be interested never mind feel emotionally affected by the comments of others.

Hooked on Comments

What’s the Attraction?

The reason you’re hooked on these comments is the same reason people become hooked on world events, news coverage of tragedies, and gossip. It’s also the same reason people ride rollercoasters and watch horror movies. It’s chemical.

When you experience something that makes you feel angry, outraged, indignant, fearful, and any other stress state, your brain and body are flooded with stress chemicals. These include adrenaline and cortisol.

There are receptors in your brain that pick up the molecules from these chemicals; and the more you experience this kind of state, the greater the number of receptors that are dedicated to those chemicals.

The more receptors you have for a particular chemical, the stronger your desire to receive the chemical. This is why you’ll feel drawn to that kind of experience more and more. In addition to this, while you’re in that experience, you are receiving a “hit” of that chemical concoction – whether it’s indignation, anger, fear, or any other intense state.

This keeps you coming back for more. In order to break that compulsion, you need to break the pattern. You need to make the conscious decision to go “cold turkey” regarding that particular activity. As you do this, the number of receptors for those particular chemicals will reduce, and so with the compulsion.

Now, this can be very difficult to do – because your body and brain are telling you that you need those chemicals. This will be experienced as a physical compulsion – and the conscious mind will then apply logic and reason to try to make sense of these compulsions.

You may find yourself coming up with a range of reasons why it’s okay (perhaps even necessary) to expose yourself to this stuff that doesn’t feel good. There is a way to take this compulsion away – quickly and effectively – so that you naturally are not interested in the things you know are detrimental to your well-being and your time management.

How to Change the Compulsion

Take a moment to close your eyes, take a deep breath, and think of the comments (or news, or anything else you feel you can’t stop exposing yourself to). Notice how you feel. See if you can remember feeling that same feeling in the past.

It may not have had anything to do with this topic, but it may be the same feeling. Notice the details of that memory – see what you saw, hear what you heard, feel what you felt. From now on, whenever you find yourself feeling tempted to start reading comments that are negative, and you start feeling those negative feelings (and possibly feel tempted to participate) use the FasterEFT technique to tap out that temptation. Keep going until all desire has gone, and you’re happy to move on with more important things.

Nothing outside of you can control you and how you feel – unless you cooperate.
