Bond University Clinical Psychologist, Associate Professor Peta Stapleton led the research for the pilot program with a research team at the Gold Coast Surgical Hospital at Varsity Lakes, using the Hospital’s cutting-edge FMRI (Functional magnetic resonance imaging) equipment.
The study was done as follows:
Fifteen obese adult patients participated in the ground-breaking research.
The participants were taught tapping techniques, which they self-administered at regular intervals throughout the program.
Dr. Stapleton said the scans, which were taken while the participants were looking at photos of food, showed their brain activation.
“After four weeks of EFT we expected to see those parts of the brain that usually activate their cravings and hunger in response to certain foods would no longer do so, and this has certainly been the case,” she said.
“The brain’s neural pathways ‘rewire’ and their desire for those foods diminishes.”
The complete results of Dr Stapleton’s pilot program’s preliminary results showed a dramatic reduction in activity in the emotional centre of the brain, responsible for food cravings.
What is FasterEFT or ‘Tapping’?
It has been well documented that emotions affect both our physical and mental wellbeing.
In Faster EFT, the ‘tapping’ is used to disrupt the signal between the brain and the major organs of the body that trigger the fight or flight response while changing neural pathways in the neocortex of the brain.
The foundation belief in Faster EFT is that there is no disruption of energy, unlike traditional EFT.

This is how we learn to walk, drive, take a shower, eat, wash the dishes, type etc. without needing to consciously concentrate on every movement and decision.
Faster EFT Tapping interrupts that signal between the brain and the organs by focusing on the meridian points connected to those organs.
This rewrites the reference or memory associated with that trigger.
Regular EFT specifically believes that negative emotions have nothing to do with memories, and are caused only by a disruption in the body’s energy system.
FasterEFT – How to Tap
Step #1: Aim
Notice how you know you have the problem.
You don’t need to know what the emotions or feelings are, just notice how you know they’re there.
What do you feel?
Where in your body do you feel it?
What do you see or hear?
How do you know it’s a problem?
Step #2: Tap
Use two fingers to tap the following points, while focusing on the feeling of your fingers on your skin:
- between your eyebrows
- beside your eye
- under your eye
- just below your collarbone
While you are tapping, say “Let it go”.
You can also add “It’s safe to let it go”.
Note: It doesn’t matter which side you tap – you can do either side, or both if you like.
Step #3: Peace
Grab your wrist, take a deep breath, blow it out, and say “peace” – and go to a peaceful memory for a moment.
Step #4: Check
Go back to your problem and take notice of how it’s changed.
Do you feel different?
Is the intensity of the feeling different?
Does the memory look or sound different?
Step #5: Repeat
Repeat steps two to four until the feeling or memory has “flipped” – in other words, the negative memory has been replaced by a positive memory.

How to use FasterEFT to Stop Junk Food Cravings
Start by noticing how you know you crave that junk food – it could be chocolate, soda, chips, whatever!
Where do you feel it in your body?
Notice what the sensation feels like, and how strong it is.
Then, use the FasterEFT tapping technique to address that feeling.
When you think about the food, what is it about it that you love so much?
What does it taste like, and what do you love about the taste?
Tap on that taste until it changes in your mind when you think about the food – tap until you can no longer taste it in your mind.
Notice the smell of that food in your mind when you think about it.
How does it smell?
What do you remember about that smell?
Now, tap on that smell until it changes to where you can no longer smell it.
Notice whatever else you notice about the food – is there a texture you like, for example.
Again, tap on that until you no longer feel it in your mind when you imagine eating that food.
The Missing Connection that Causes Junk Food Cravings
Junk food cravings for specific foods are often linked to early memories of love connected with that food.
For example, you may have been given cake each time you visited your grandmother; and perhaps you felt loved while you were with her.
Your subconscious may have then connected the cake with love.
This will mean that your subconscious is triggering your body to crave cake because there is a belief that they bring love.
Naturally, your conscious mind doesn’t believe this; and you will probably be completely unaware of the connection consciously.
So, while you think you are addicted to cake, the truth is, it is simply a connection in the subconscious between cake and love.
Change that connection, and the cravings for cake disappear.
When you tap on a memory like this, feel the love from your grandmother (or whoever it is you felt it from at the time), and send that love back to her.
Feel that love between you and her.
Notice it has nothing to do with the cake – the cake can’t love you back.
The love comes directly from the person.
Fill them with the same love.
Then address what you love about the cake and tap out all aspects of that – the taste, the texture, the smell etc.
Being able to successfully stop junk food cravings – with lasting effect – means addressing what is causing the cravings, not the cravings themselves.
