What is truth? Do you know the truth? As a friend just said to me: “The truth about which truth?” There are so many… and that’s the truth about truth. The truth for each person depends on their particular and unique perspective.
My truth will be at least slightly different to yours, and very different to the truth many other people experience. If you were to ask the people in your environment what the truth is on a particular subject, you’ll find that their answers may vary quite dramatically.
However, because of the nature of our life experience, most people are convinced that the truth they know is the universal truth; and that those who can’t see it are mistaken, misled, or a miscreant. In fact, many are prepared to fight, kill and even die for what they perceive to be the only truth.
What is Truth?
Why does the truth vary from one person to another, and from one experience to another? Do you remember believing in Santa Claus when you were a child? If you had been asked if it was true that Santa brings gifts at Christmas, you would have said it was definitely true. Then, at some point, you learned that it wasn’t true.
There will have been numerous times in your life when you discovered that something you had accepted as truth turned out to be not true at all. So, what is truth based on?
From birth, out experiences are interpreted, given meaning, and filed as fact in the subconscious. This is how we learn about ourselves and the world around us. It’s how we learn to survive, how we learn what different things are in the world, and how the world works.
All of this data forms the foundation of our reality – our “truth”. The only way to find out what is true is by experience – whether that experience is personal, first-hand experience, or hearing about it from someone we trust.
How Truth Works
If the subconscious accepts something as true, it files the information as fact. From then on it will filter all future experiences through that fact. As we go through life, the subconscious refers to that fact, and then prompts the brain to trigger the organs to produce chemicals that cause sensations in the body.
It is these feelings that provide the authenticity of that fact. It feels real, and therefore it must be real. The conscious mind will provide the reasoning and logic to support that feeling. And so you have undeniable, obvious, unquestionable truth… for that person. Someone else, who has had different life experiences may have different references, providing different feelings – supporting different truth.
Whose Truth is Really True?
Each individual’s truth is really true – for that person. And “truths” can be changed! Just as the truth about Santa and the Easter Bunny changed for each of us as we grew older (along with so many other “truths”) other things we take for granted as being true right now can be changed.
Why Would You Want to Change the Truth?
If each person’s truth is different, based on what data they hold in their subconscious, and the results each person is experiencing in their lives are based on their individual truth, it makes sense to choose a truth that will provide you with the results you really want in your life.
For example, if your life experiences to date have created the truth in you that most humans are rude and only care about themselves, that will be your reality. And you will find that most people you come into contact with or hear about will be rude and only care about themselves.
Someone you know at work may have had life experiences so far that have created the truth that most people mean well, are doing their best, and that compassion is a natural human trait. Since that is the truth their subconscious is referring to, it will be prompting their brain to trigger their organs to produce the chemicals that cause the sensations that cause their conscious mind to notice different things, take different actions and make different decisions to those that you make. This will lead them to different experiences than those you encounter.
The best part about the truth is, that if you were to replace your current truth about humans to your work colleague’s truth, you would see an automatic change in the experiences you have with people. You would find yourself experiencing the side of human nature that she experiences – and that would then be the truth for you.
How to Trade Your Truth in for a Better One
Since your truth – regardless of what it is – is based on the records held in your subconscious (which are based on the experiences you’ve had in life so far), you can change that truth by changing those records. In other words, change the memories, and you change your truth – which results in automatic changes in your life. If you’re concerned about the ethics of changing your memories, read: How Ethical is it to Change Memories?
In order to change the memories that are supporting the truth you don’t want, use the FasterEFT process described in: The FasterEFT Technique – Step-by-Step. For more information on how powerful this technique can be in changing your reality, read: How to Change Your Reality using FasterEFT.
